Flex-fuel vehicles and E85: Why ethanol isn't making its numbers

When the U.S. Energy Independence and Security Act was passed in 2007, ethanol was viewed as a way to cut gasoline consumption and reduce dependence on foreign oil. Seven years later, times have changed. Several factors have now suggested that introducing more ethanol to the fuel supply may be unnecessary. U.S. gasoline usage peaked in 2006 — the year before the Act was passed — and the decrease is expected to continue in the future. In addition, Americans are buying fewer cars, and driving them less.

Oklahoma City Police seek car wash burglary suspect

Oklahoma City Police are searching for a man who stole cash from Red Carpet Car Wash, at 6405 N. May Ave., on Feb. 16. Police said the man pried open a drawer at the car wash and took the money.

April is National Car Care Month. It's not too early to think about ways to leverage the Car Care Council's national consumer media campaign to help grow car care businesses. Many businesses throughout the country celebrate National Car Care Month by hosting community car care events. At these events, businesses volunteer their time to check components on vehicles that typically get overlooked, including tires, air filters, lubricants and fluids, belts and hoses, battery cables, and lights. These events emphasize the importance of preventive maintenance and educate consumers about how to take proper care of their cars.

American competitiveness demands immigration reform

Most Americans have come around to the view that attracting skilled immigrants is good for the U.S. economy. The Republican immigration reform principles released this month noted the thousands of foreign students studying at U.S. universities and called for retaining "these exceptional individuals to help grow our economy." President Barack Obama in his State of the Union address said, "when people come here to fulfill their dreams — to study, invent, contribute to our culture — they make our country a more attractive place for businesses to locate and create jobs for everybody." The news that immigration reform may not be progressing this year is bad news for immigrants but even worse news for American companies.
