Water: Reuse, reclaim, restore
Auto Laundry News
Water is and always will be the lifeblood of the vehicle wash industry. The question is: What are we doing as an industry to protect our lifeblood? Why should our industry focus on managing water and sewer costs? Some states have been in drought conditions. Water supply shortages will drive the cost of water higher, and we have seen this happening with double-digit increases throughout the country.

Texas climatologist optimistic about less severe drought for next 2 decades
Texas A&M University Extension via Ag Professional
As far as drought is concerned, for the next 20 to 30 years, Texas climatologist Dr. John Nielsen-Gammon of College Station, said he is optimistic. "And then I turn seriously pessimistic," he said. While reports from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service personnel show an improvement in rainfall during the last six months, Nielsen-Gammon said rainfall patterns are only one of the major factors in drought.

Crafting an effective menu
Professional Carwashing & Detailing
Imagine: It’s a beautiful, sunny Saturday with nothing but clear, brilliant blue skies for miles. Phil is off from work, and the kids are busy at the park with their neighborhood friends. What a perfect day for Phil to go to the car wash. He pulls up to the wash down the street, smiling luminously as he slowly ascends toward the car wash’s menu. But wait; the disorderly menu is filled with words scattered about here and there, packages and à la carte services thrown together with no clear indication of what belongs to what.

Is big in your future?
Auto Laundry News
Reportedly, Mr. Wash Autoservice AG, located in Stuttgart, Germany, is now the world’s biggest or fanciest car wash. At a cost of $40 million, the site can handle 400 cars an hour, 50,000 a month, and 500,000 a year. By contrast, the largest car wash project Robert Roman has been involved with as an advisor occupies roughly three acres of land and cost nearly $14 million to develop. One portion of this property has a tunnel, detail facility, self-serve vacuum, and full-serve oil change. The other portion has gas sales, a convenience store, and a quick-service restaurant drive-thru.

Thicker than water: Arizona town of Williams confronts drought
Cronkite News via KTAR-FM
It's September, and John Moore gazes out across the Santa Fe Reservoir, his wide-brimmed, felt cowboy hat tilted back so he can see. In the clear, calm water of the reservoir is the reflection of Bill Williams Mountain, the town's namesake. Wildflowers line the banks of the reservoir. It would be easy to think nothing's wrong. Moore, who owns a hotel, bar and restaurant in town, has been mayor of Williams, Arizona, for seven years, and he has lived there for 28 years. Never has he seen the reservoir — one of five that provide water to the town of 3,000 people — so low.
