Car wash still booming despite water contingency plan

The words drought and car wash don't often compliment of each other, but you'd be surprised how efficient using a car wash is, even with the current water restrictions. "We use less water than hotels, we use less water than a lot of restaurants and here we are, just because we have the word 'washing' and we're using water, people are throwing rocks at us.

BMW lifts i3 electric car production 43 percent on higher demand

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, the world's largest maker of luxury vehicles, has increased production of the i3 electric city car 43 percent to meet demand that has exceeded the carmaker's initial expectations. The premium manufacturer in recent weeks has raised daily output to 100 vehicles from 70 previously at the factory in Leipzig, Germany, where the model is assembled, Harald Krueger, BMW production chief, said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg.

Increasing profits at the car wash depends on two tasks: drawing new customers and tempting current customers to increase the frequency of their visits, said Jim Callahan, director of marketing for Geo. H. Green Oil Co. in Atlanta. There is a significant opportunity with car washes for convenience store owners. According to Professional Carwashing and Detailing research, car wash sales reached $5.8 billion last year. Currently, about 65 percent of all car washing units now sell gasoline. The average annual profit per car wash was $86,531.

Jacksboro, Texas, enters mild drought conditions

Jacksboro, Texas, is currently under stage one drought conditions. For the city of Jacksboro, the three levels of drought condition are mild, moderate and severe. The drought contingency plans are placed to help conserve water. Stage one's expected reduction of water use is 10 percent where stage five is a 30 percent reduction expectation. Fines and surcharges can be placed in the more severe stages if water is used in excess of the designated contingency plan. According to the city's drought contingency plan, the first trigger for stage one occurred when the Jacksboro lake level dropped below 1,000 feet mean sea level.
