Deal, now retired, entered the car wash industry in 1964, but the event that earned him the Purple Heart took place in 1944, according to MLive.com.

Carmakers studying why drivers ignore recalls
The Hill
A top lobby group for automakers will poll drivers to learn why many vehicle owners ignore auto recall notices, alerting them to safety issues. The Washington, D.C.-based Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers said April 27 it is contracting with Republican pollster Bill McInturff to research the factors that motivate drivers to take their cars in for repairs after recalls. The average completion rate of recalls is currently 75 percent.

Drought persisting in part of Central Texas

The more than 10 inches of rain in Austin since Jan. 1 has pushed the thought of drought out of the minds of many Central Texas residents, but parts of the Hill Country remain parched. The drought monitor for April 24 shows a split in Central Texas between areas with plentiful rain and areas that vastly need to improve.

Grand opening celebration at Spring, Texas, wash includes free washes

Quick Quack Car Wash customers will receive free carwashes for 10 days in celebration of the company’s newest wash, according to a press release. The free washes will be available April 28 to May 7. The new exterior-only, express wash is the chain’s second location in the Houston area and its 19th overall, stated the release.

Forecasters predict mildest hurricane season since mid-20th century due to El Nino

The Atlantic and Caribbean tropical storm and hurricane season begins June 1 and continues through Nov. 30. Thanks to a developing El Nino, the warmer-than-normal sea-surface temperature pattern along the equatorial regions, 2015 may be quieter than normal in terms of tropical storm and hurricane activity.

Water conservation efforts important all the time, not just during drought

In Lawton recently, a small airplane began flying over that city and southwestern Oklahoma trying to help make it rain. This cloud-seeding exercise will continue through August as officials look to ease the pain of a drought that’s now in its fifth year. Is this, ahem, a pie-in-the-sky proposition? Maybe. There’s debate among scientists as to whether cloud seeding is worthwhile. But after such a long stretch of below-average rainfall, how can it hurt?
