Deduct or capitalize: Newer new rules for repair costs
Auto Laundry
Since the inception of the Internal Revenue Code, the IRS and car wash operators and other business owners have been at odds over whether expenditures are currently deductible or whether they must be capitalized and recovered through depreciation over time. Now, after seven years of drafts and proposed rules, the IRS has issued final regulations addressing whether a cost is a deductible repair or a capital expenditure. The IRS has also released a long-awaited Revenue Procedure that details the procedures necessary to obtain the "automatic" consent of the IRS to change accounting methods as required by the new repair regulations.

Car wash business booming in spring weather
KAGS-TV
Tree pollen levels are high in the Brazos Valley and they're horrible for us allergy sufferers, but there's one business that loves pollen season and that's car washes. It's probably obvious their business goes up in the spring, but just how much it does may surprise you. Vacuuming, washing and shining make our cars look nice and clean. "I clean the car when the car starts to get dirty. Sometimes it can be within a week, sometimes two weeks," said John Reese who washes his car regularly. "I wash it twice a week. I've got to keep the dirt off of that truck!" said Clarence Lewis, who washes his truck twice a week. These guys were just a couple of a few hundred that recently came through Shammy Car Wash in Bryan.

Busy car washes after the dust storm
KAMR-TV
VideoBriefThough we'd rather see more rain and no dust, days like this past Tuesday have come this year nonetheless, so, we have to take advantage of the less windy days to get the cars back to clean and shiny. The folks over at Zips Car Wash take the dirt-filled afternoons in stride. "With the dusty days, it slows us down, definitely, but as soon as the dust is out and the winds settle down we look forward to the days that come ahead and we know they're going to be some dirty cars," said Manager Aldo Bocanegra.
