Car wash, auto-parts store and tire center in the works for Loveland
Reporter-Herald
Around Loveland, Colorado, these days, there's a whole lotta diggin' goin' on. At three highly visible locations around town, construction has started on new businesses that will open by early 2015: A car wash, an auto-parts store and a tire center. This tunnel-type car wash will pull your car through its foaming brushes and spit it out on the other side, clean and dry, three minutes later, according to co-owner Erik LaPlante. "It's a very convenient, high-speed model of car washing," said LaPlante, a Timnath resident who works for Hi-Performance Wash Systems, a Denver-based car wash distributor and supplier.

Teen charged in car wash burglary
Amarillo Globe-News
Amarillo police recently arrested a 17-year-old boy on a burglary charge and four other charges stemming from an incident at an East Amarillo Boulevard car wash. At 4:06 a.m., officers responded to a burglary alarm at Quick Quack Car Wash, 1001 E. Amarillo Blvd., Sgt. Brent Barbee said. Officers discovered someone broke into the building by breaking out a north side glass door. The burglar pried open an empty safe and pulled a computer out of a cabinet in the office. A damaged computer was later found in the business, according to Barbee.

Mister Car Wash finds corporation home downtown
Inside Tucson Business
The shuttered, mid-century brick school was just blocks from Tucson's business, arts and leisure districts but scarred by graffiti and partial demolition, a blighted pigeon roost at the edge of a historic neighborhood better known for its Craftsman-style architecture and stately shade trees. It was exactly what a growing corporation, in the business of getting things clean, wanted.

Signage: A powerful tool for growing carwash business
Professional Carwashing & Detailing
Effective signage for your car wash can be just as important to the business as the equipment and employee service. Marketing trends change over the years, but keeping up with them may be crucial to a business' success. "In the car wash industry, signage is often an afterthought, but when you think about it, a paying customer doesn't even see the type of car wash equipment you have until they're inside your wash, so the equipment doesn't do the selling, it does the washing," says Bobby Jones, art director for TSS Inc.

Car seat sensors aim to curb drowsy driving accidents
By Stephanie McKenzie
Many automobile accidents around the world are caused by tired drivers falling asleep at the wheel. Now, a U.K. company is aiming to help alleviate this deadly problem. New car seats are being developed with electronic sensors knitted into the fabric that alert drivers if they begin to fall asleep behind the wheel. These car seat covers are in the developmental and research phase right now. However, if they are brought to market, they have the potential to save a lot of lives.

Not if, when
Auto Laundry News
Autonomous cars were once again in the spotlight recently with the unveiling of Google's self-driving prototype, 200 of which the tech giant plans on putting through a test program starting this summer. Being cautious, early versions of the vehicles will still have manual controls, enabling test drivers to override the automated systems. Most of these two-seater cars, however, will be fully autonomous, sporting only a stop and start button and a screen to show where the car is going — no steering wheel and no gas or brake pedals.

Eyes wide open: Do your homework before signing the deal
Auto Laundry News
Buy a struggling tunnel or self-serve, radically transform the business model, grow the business, and repeat. Most of us personally know, or know of, an operator with just such a success story. Turning an underperforming tunnel into an express-exterior powerhouse, or a shrinking in-bay automatic business into a mini-tunnel are the two most common scenarios — but is there more to the story? Of course there is.

Danny's Family Car Wash reaches agreement with feds
The Arizona Republic
One by one, 14 managers from the well-known Danny's Family Car Wash chain have admitted in federal court over the past year that they took part in a scheme orchestrated by top executives to rehire illegal workers and provide them with fraudulent identities. But all along, the owner of the company, Daniel "Danny" Hendon, a former Detroit police officer and high-profile Valley entrepreneur and businessman, had escaped indictment by federal prosecutors. On July 24, however, Hendon pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Phoenix to a felony conspiracy charge.

German company sells solar car washes
Sun Wind & Energy
Sonnenkraft Deutschland GmbH has recently begun selling a system called SolWash, which uses solar heat to wash cars. Car washes are particularly suitable for solar thermal because the demand for heat is actually higher during the summer than in the winter. Cars simply get washed more often during the warm months of the year. This means that heat surpluses during the summer are not likely to be a problem.
