Parched Texas city hopes water additive will cut lake evaporation
The Associated Press via CBS News
A North Texas city already has deployed two unusual techniques to try to cope with a persistent and lengthy drought, and Wichita Falls just added a third, more extreme tool to try to deal with its dwindling water supply. The hope is that adding a biodegradable palm oil-and-lime-based product on the surface of a lake that's the city's primary water supply will cut the evaporation rate of 40 million gallons a day by at least 10 percent, Russell Schreiber, the city's director of public works, said.

What's the real issue behind the staggering wave of auto recalls?
By Ross Lancaster
The amount of auto recalls so far this year has resulted in a most dubious record. The total number of cars recalled reached 40 million, blowing past the old record of 30.8 million set in 2004 with nearly half the year remaining and more recalls expected soon. Yet, with manufacturing technology constantly improving, one would think that such a widespread and comprehensive list of recalls should be a thing of the past. Has enforcement of safety issues improved greatly, or are automakers putting a lower-quality product on the road in the name of expediency?
