Dallas car wash owner frustrated as city's road work scares off customers

People go to White Star Car Wash to rinse their cars of grit and grime, but once they've paid their money and are ready to leave, what they encounter is gravel and dust. "Who's going to wash their car and then have to go back over that? It doesn't make sense," said Les Spears, who works at the car wash. Spears also said it doesn’t make sense to him that it has taken the city more than a year to finish this road work.

Louisiana car wash burglar leaves empty-handed
A would-be thief armed with a backpack full of tools, including an acetylene torch and hydraulic jack, recently fled a car wash in Central with nothing to show for it after spending more than three hours on the premises. Stuart Carter, owner of the Geaux Clean Car Wash on Wax Road, said nothing was missing, but the burglar caused about $1,600 in damage to the business.

Though it was on the rise for years, vehicle use in America peaked in 2007. Despite a growing population and an economy on the mend, the Federal Highway Administration recently reported that travel in the first half of 2013 was down a little, showing that the trend is continuing.

Brothers Mark and Matthew Jackson certainly aren't strangers to working with family. So when they decided to open Mighty Max Express Car Wash and Dog Wash in Mattoon, Ill., it seemed to be a fitting business move. The automated tunnel car wash is the only one of its kind in Coles County, said Mark Jackson.
IRS hikes small business tax breaks under health reform
There's little doubt that many business owners are confused about health reform. A recent survey by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce indicated that about a quarter of employers didn't fully know their responsibilities under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. To that end, the IRS in late August issued new ACA regulations affecting smaller businesses, those with fewer than 25 employees who make an average wage of less than $50,000 a year, clarifying which employers would qualify for tax credits.
