How business owners can take a vacation and still get the work done
Small Business Trends
American small-business owners don't take enough vacation. In fact, the United States is the only Western nation without a single legally required paid vacation day or holiday. By law, every country in the European Union has at least four work weeks of paid vacation. Do they know something we don't? Most entrepreneurs would agree that time away from work is actually good for their productivity. Unfortunately, so many small business owners are afraid to take vacation for fear of missing something or their company "falling apart."

Cameras capture thieves burglarizing Bexar County, Texas, car wash
KSAT-TV
Bexar County sheriff's investigators are hoping surveillance video will help them find the two thieves responsible for ransacking and taking thousands of dollars worth of cash from the Pirate Coves Car Wash on the Northwest Side. "The biggest hassle is (that) we come in this morning and we had to get the computer networks back up and tried to get the business back up and running. They made a colossal mess," said owner Kevin Chandler.

Oil spraying can keep cars rust proofed
The Record
What exactly does oil spraying involve and is it worthwhile for your car? Oil spraying involves covering the complete underside of your car with a light coating of oil, which acts as a means of rust protection. Many car and truck owners swear by it, crediting the process as having kept their vehicles rust-free for several years, if not decades.

7 steps employers should take now to prevent workplace bullying
By D. Albert Brannen
Workplace bullying is becoming a bigger problem than harassment. Twenty-seven percent of U.S. workers report experiencing abusive conduct at work, and 21 percent report witnessing such conduct. Bullying can be physical or psychological. Simply put, bullying is a form of violence. Workplace bullying does not just affect the target. It affects others in the workplace, and can cause reduced productivity, interfere with the free flow of communications within the organization and lead to higher turnover, all of which significantly increase an employer's operating costs.

Nonrecall actions raise questions on safety info disclosure
Automotive News
The Chevrolet Volt has had just one recall since its introduction four years ago. The problem, a faulty brake valve, affected just four cars, making it one of the smallest recalls in history. But General Motors has fixed other problems on thousands of Volts for free through at least eight customer-satisfaction campaigns, which are less public than recalls and largely unregulated. The repairs included reinforcing the battery pack and improving the battery coolant system after a government crash test sparked a widely publicized fire, prompting a congressional hearing and an investigation by federal regulators.

As drought persists, cities look to Texas 'lakes' to answer needs
StateImpact Texas
The funny thing about Walter E. Long Lake in Texas: most people don't know it exists. The lake, tucked into a rural-feeling part of North East Austin is big, by Austin standards. It can hold more water than Austin's two central city lakes — Lake Austin and Lady Bird Lake — combined. It was created to host a power plant, which it’s done for nearly 50 years. That's how it got its other name: Decker Lake. But recently, Austin's city council voted on a plan to wean Austin off Decker Power Plant electricity, opting to shutter the plant to lower citywide emissions. If that happens, the lake could serve as Austin’s a new city reservoir.
