Register for the Orlando Prep Class, June 1-3
A Prep Class is an interactive study group that allows the candidate to further their knowledge development. It's an excellent way to "brush-up" on skills, develop a nurturing mentor relationship with their instructor, and provides more interaction than if the candidate only used the self-study method.

Even after melanoma, some people keep on using tanning beds
You would think that people who were diagnosed with melanoma — the most deadly form of skin cancer — would be meticulously careful about using sunscreen, avoiding tanning salons and generally protecting their skin.
You would be wrong, according to a recent study.

Tattoo regret on the rise
Seems like not so long ago, America became a very inky nation. Even soccer moms were getting tattoos.
Now, according to a recent poll, 1 in 8 regret it. But removing that body art is a long, often difficult process, which is why a growing number of people are choosing the do-it-yourself route.
Botulinum shots may be effective treatment for myofascial pain syndrome
Pain Medicine News
Although botulinum toxin type A has been documented as effective in the treatment of spasticity and dystonia, there is little evidence regarding its efficacy in myofascial pain syndrome. However, a recent study shows that patients with this syndrome who receive Botox injections experience a statistically and clinically significant improvement in their symptoms.

Anti-aging at the molecular level
Journal of Clinical Investigation via Ivanhoe Newswire
High-fidelity DNA replication during each cycle of cell division is required to maintain genomic stability and prevent chromosomal mutations and rearrangements that can cause disease and aging. Mutations in ATRX, a gene that encodes a protein that participates in DNA replication, are associated with X-linked mental retardation, various cancers and developmental disorders, but the cellular functions of ATRX are still unclear. Researchers led by Nathalie Bérubé at the University of Western Ontario report on the effects of ATRX deficiency in mice.

The debate over stem-cell face-lifts
The New York Times
The term "stem-cell face-lift" is something of a misnomer. A conventional face-lift requires surgically cutting, lifting and sewing sagging skin, while this procedure is typically nonsurgical, involving fat injections designed to plump up the skin and restore the face’s youthful volume. The stem-cell face-lift starts with liposuction to harvest fat from a place that has extra (like the stomach or thighs) that can later be injected into a place that doesn’t have enough (like the hollows of the cheeks or around the eyes).

How Botox jabs can make you feel depressed ... because you can't smile properly
Women who have Botox injections to get rid of laughter lines are more likely to feel depressed — because they can't smile properly.
The treatment, which works by temporarily "freezing" muscles in the face, cuts off the signals sent to the brain when we smile, which make us feel happy.
It means the treatment may indirectly spark depression, according to Cardiff University psychologist Dr. Michael Lewis.

Social media marketing: So much more than just the technology
By Meagan Rockett
It's exciting to see more and more associations recognizing the urgent need to build their presence on social media or to build up their existing profile. But too often, in the rush to embrace one of the hottest, most promising new tools in marketing and communications, organizations are asking the wrong questions, making poor choices and building social media campaigns that disappoint rather than delight.

The serum made by British cosmetics firm Nip + Fab claims to tighten the skin to reduce lines and wrinkles just like Botox — but without the face-freezing injections that can cost hundreds of dollars at a time.
Dermatology researcher secures federal grant to explore psoriasis

Dr. Nicole Ward, assistant professor of dermatology, is investigating whether interleukin-17C, a protein key to the regulation of the immune system, may also play a role in the onset and escalation of psoriasis, a chronic, debilitating skin disease that affects an estimated 7.5 million Americans.
