Federal travel cuts part of $1.1 trillion US omnibus bill
Meetings Net
The American Society of Association Executives and U.S. Travel, both backers of the Meetings Mean Business campaign and tireless advocates for the meetings industry in Washington, D.C., were instrumental in making sure the restrictions in the omnibus package were no worse than those that have been in place for some time, according to Jim Clarke, senior vice president of public policy at ASAE. “We are really happy that the language introduced by Coburn did not make it into the final bill.”

The data that every meeting professional needs to know
PCMA
Remember the "Economic Significance of Meetings to the US" report issued in 2010 to defend the value of the industry to lawmakers who were questioning federal conference spending? Well, it's getting an update, and the numbers look much better. The first report worked to highlight how valuable meetings and conventions are to the U.S. economy, but the data struggled to accurately portray the industry's real impact. Why? SGMP awards 22 scholarships to its 2014 NEC & Expo
SGMP
The Rance R. Willis Planner Development Scholarship program is named in honor of its 1989 Sam Gilmer Planner of the Year awardee and national president from 1991-1993. SGMP and the Gilmer Institute of Learning are pleased to announce the 22 recipients of a scholarship to the 2014 SGMP NEC & Expo in Portland, Ore., on May 6-8, 2014. We received a significant number of applications this year and each was reviewed and scored by a panel of member peers after the applications were stripped of personal information (including name and chapter). In addition to the scholarships made available each year by the national organization, many chapters also provide scholarships to their members to attend the NEC. Chapter scholarships utilize a different application and a different set of criteria. Many of those processes have not yet been completed, so we encourage all members to contact their chapter leaders regarding these opportunities.
