Meetings industry plans inaugural 'Exhibitions Day' on Capitol Hill
Successful Meetings
To educate lawmakers on the merits of meetings and event — in particular, trade shows and exhibitions — a coalition of industry organizations will host the first-ever Exhibitions Day June 16-17 in Washington, D.C., the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), announced. Specifically, they will focus on three issues: the JOLT Act, the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) and government employee participation.

Report shows shrinking pay gap for federal employees, but few women are in top jobs

Uncle Sam's gender pay gap is not nearly as bad as it used to be, but what remains demonstrates the difficult nature of the problem. The pay gap between male and female federal employees, with men in the better position, "has dramatically shrunk," says a report issued by the Office of Personnel Management.

GSA announces plan to simplify federal contracting

The General Services Administration's contracting division is developing a new Web platform and business structure to bring more expertise to complicated acquisitions, the agency said. The new initiative, called Category Management, will involve assigning a Federal Acquisition Service manager in charge of each of several acquisition categories, such as information technology, professional services and travel.

The positive TripAdvisor ratings taking the sting out of online reviews

There's so much chatter about negative reviews on TripAdvisor, but it turns out that the average review on TripAdvisor sites globally is 4.12 out of 5 rating, according to the company's internal data. With some 150 million reviews and opinions on TripAdvisor sites, it turns out that reviewers rate their stays overwhelmingly positively at 4.12, which was the average mark through January 2014.
