SGMP has given 'Certified Government Meeting Professional' designation to 600 meeting planners
Successful Meetings
The Society of Government Meeting Professionals has awarded its Certified Government Meeting Professional (CGMP) designation to 23 new government meeting planners, bringing its total CGMP count to over 600. "Education and certification is the primary focus of SGMP," National President Rob Coffman said in a statement. "Our CGMP designation is a crucial step in the career development of a government meetings professional. It is an important way to verify a command of the key elements that comprise successful meeting planning and a commitment to the highest professional standards in the industry."

Freeman uses drones to give virtual tours of meeting venues

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) — otherwise known as drones — traditionally have been deployed by the military for defense and surveillance purposes. Event production company Freeman, however, wants to use them to help meeting planners source venues. Freeman recently announced that it is using drone technology to capture real-life, "in-room" views of meeting spaces and facilities that it will use to provide enhanced virtual tours in PLANTOUR, its Web-based venue-planning tool.

Super Bowl LII headed to Minneapolis
NFL.com
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently announced that Minneapolis was awarded the right to host Super Bowl LII. The host city for the 2015 SGMP NEC & Expo will boast a brand-new, $1 billion stadium in advance of the 2018 game. The 52nd Super Bowl is the second for the city, which hosted Super Bowl XXVI at the recently demolished Metrodome in 1992.
