The real Green New Deal is plastic
Plastics Today
Environmentalists are extremely worried about the global water supply. They vigorously combat pollution in the world’s waterways, particularly plastic pollution, but the oceans are also filled with metal waste, including cargo containers and entire ships. Deforestation also is a major concern of environmentalists, who have long fought to save forests that also serve as carbon containment. Yet, more than 550 activist organizations are pushing to rid the world of plastic, the most eco-friendly material in use today when compared with textiles, steel and aluminum, wood and paper.

Plastics processors waking up to the digital world
Plastics Technology
Think back to last January. The economy was booming, machines were running day and night, 401k’s were soaring, and our biggest concern was finding additional labor. Fewer than 12 months later there are a whole new set of priorities and concerns. We discovered how vulnerable life and business can be, learned to adapt and improvise and opportunistically embraced new approaches for getting things done.

3D-printing hollow structures with 'xolography'
IEEE Spectrum
By shining light beams in liquid resin, a new 3-D printing technique dubbed "xolography" can generate complex hollow structures, including simple machines with moving parts, a new study finds.
"I like to imagine that it's like the replicator from Star Trek," says study co-author Martin Regehly, an experimental physicist at the Brandenburg University of Applied Science in Germany.

Upcycling: Turning plastic bags into adhesives
Berkeley News
While many cities and eight states have banned single-use plastics, bags and other polyethylene packaging still clog landfills and pollute rivers and oceans.
One major problem with recycling polyethylene, which makes up one-third of all plastic production worldwide, is economic: Recycled bags end up in low-value products, such as decks and construction material, providing little incentive to reuse the waste.
