'Infinitely recyclable' plastic could help solve our waste crisis
Singularity Hub
The world is drowning in plastic, and part of the reason is that it’s incredibly hard to recycle most of the waste we create. According to new research though, “infinitely recyclable” plastics present an economically viable alternative to the plastics we’re currently using.

Demand outpaces supply of recycled content plastic packaging
Packaging Digest
As interest in the circular economy grows, more companies have been setting goals to increase the recyclability and recycled content of their packaging. AMERIPEN – the American Institute for Packaging and the Environment, a policy-based trade association for the U.S. packaging industry, commissioned a study to better understand the relationship between company packaging goals for post-consumer recycled content and current supply and demand.

Hydrocracking our way to recycling plastic waste
University of Delaware via ScienceDaily
Researchers have developed a new method to convert single-use plastic waste into ready-to-use molecules for jet fuels, diesel and lubricants. It requires 50% less energy than other technologies and doesn't add carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. And their process can treat a variety of plastics, even when they are mixed together.

With Kautex packaging die heads 100% color change can be
achieved while saving up to 75% in time and materials.
RapidXchange technology allows to reduce the purging process by up to 75% through rheologically optimized flow channels.
The groundbreaking results were achieved in comparison with uncoated heads in mono-layer applications.

A shortage of plastic pipette tips is delaying biology research
Smithsonian Magazine
Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, a toilet paper shortage rattled shoppers and led to aggressive stockpiling and an increased interest in alternatives like bidets. Now, a similar crisis is affecting scientists in the lab: a shortage of disposable, sterile plastic products, especially pipette tips, Sally Herships and David Gura report for NPR’s The Indicator.

New recycling technologies could keep more plastic out of landfills
Science News for Students
It feels good to recycle. When you sort soda bottles and plastic bags from the rest of your garbage, it seems like you’re helping the planet. The more plastic you put in the blue bin, the more you’re keeping out of landfills, right?
Wrong. No matter how much plastic you try to recycle, most ends up in the trash heap.

Infinitely recyclable plastic on the horizon with next-gen polymers
Triple Pundit
We humans are addicted to an almost indestructible substance that is all around us. Globally, humans create 380 million tons of plastic annually. Despite the recycling symbol on the bottom of any such package, the vast majority of plastics end up in landfills, waste incineration plants or our oceans. Numerous problems have long plagued what manufactures call recyclable plastic — but there is hope on the horizon.

Researchers develop 3D-printed material to replace ivory
Canadian Plastics
Most of us love the look and feel of ivory, but we hate the source: the tusks and teeth of animals, which has led to widespread animal slaughter over the centuries.
And while the ivory trade was banned internationally in 1989 to protect elephant populations, there is still a demand for the hard, white material, both to restore ivory parts of old art objects and also to create new objects with the same look and feel. Substitute materials such as bones, shells and plastic have all be used, but the results vary.
