Ranieri says housing market in US is reaching bottom
Bloomberg    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The U.S. housing market is reaching a bottom, according to Lewis Ranieri, the mortgage-bond pioneer. While "broad" concern that home prices have further to fall is restraining sales, "many, myself included, think we are at a bottom," Ranieri said at a conference hosted by the Mortgage Bankers Association in New York. The second or third quarter will prove the nadir, said Ranieri, who added that in his distressed mortgage business "we can't buy loans fast enough anymore." More

TAB    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

It is with sadness that the Texas Association of Builders (TAB) announces the death of Frank S. McCoy. Mr. McCoy was a dedicated member of the association for over 30 years and was the creator and driving force behind the TAB-endorsed general liability and builders risk insurance programs.

"For decades, Mr. McCoy worked with TAB and the local home builders associations in Texas to forge lasting relationships and enrich association partnerships," said Scott Norman, executive director of the Texas Association of Builders. "Thousands of builder members have benefited from the insurance products that have been — and continue to be — offered as a benefit of membership. The success of this program is due in large part to the efforts of this distinguished gentleman."

The Texas Association of Builders honored Mr. McCoy in 1997 with its Associate of the Year Award and again in 2005 with the Ted Schlossman Lifetime Achievement Award.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, at West-Hurtt Funeral Home in DeSoto, TX. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, at Hampton Road Baptist Church in DeSoto, TX. Interment will be at Nocona Cemetery in Nocona, TX at 3:30 p.m. The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, 400 S. Eagle, Crowley, TX 76036.

Affordable housing projects in low-income areas face tough road under new Texas tax-subsidy rules
Dallas Morning News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In many ways, the planned site for a huge affordable apartment complex in South Dallas seemed perfect. At the intersection of Hatcher and Scyene roads, the project known as Hatcher Square is near a train station and bus lines; it's close to jobs and churches and community centers, and nearby residents have widely supported its construction. But according to backers, Hatcher Square will be all but impossible to build under new rules that govern the lucrative subsidies developers need to build affordable housing. More

San Antonio Express-News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
It's one of the most popular corridors for builders and buyers of new homes. And as the economy picks up, the suburbs from Loop 1604 to New Braunfels along Interstate 35 are likely to grow even more crowded. Housing analysts, developers and builders say a low supply of vacant lots, tight credit markets and higher development and building fees are pushing the new-home market farther north, away from San Antonio and into New Braunfels.
