Vanilla Ice has signed on as the Show's opening keynote speaker for August 7 at 9:30 a.m., sponsored by Great American Insurance Group. Vanilla Ice, known for his world-famous rapping and reality TV personality, will be speaking to the homebuilding industry about his successful career, holding a Q&A and performing a couple of his most famous songs. He will also be making a guest appearance on the trade show floor. He is a successful real-estate entrepreneur, and has more than 15 years of hands-on home improvement experience. The Dallas native partnered with the DIY Network in 2010 and launched The Vanilla Ice Project. STAR AWARDS FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

TAB Announces 2019 Star Awards Finalists.
Winners will be honored at the Star Awards Program and Presentation on August 8.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Association of Builders (TAB) is pleased to announce the 2019 Star Awards finalists. There were 574 entries for 188 elite categories for the three out-of-state judges to review and select the best of the best. TAB launched the Star Awards program in 1992 and it remains the only statewide tribute to excellence in the homebuilding industry.

This year's entries showcased the outstanding work of builders, remodelers, architects, designers, sales professionals, marketing professionals, construction professionals and industry leaders in Texas. With nearly 200 categories to choose from and hundreds of entries each year, it's impressive to be recognized as a finalist!

Winners will be announced and celebrated during the Star Awards Program and Presentation on August 8 at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas. The celebration begins with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by the presentation of awards at 6:30 p.m. All finalists are encouraged to attend the awards ceremony as winners will be presented their trophies on stage.

TEXAS BUILDERS FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

The Texas Builders Foundation is proud to announce the recipients of its fall 2019 scholarship awards. Seven outstanding students were selected to receive the Texas Builders Foundation Scholarships. This is the ninth year that the Foundation has awarded student scholarships. These trade school, community college and university students will be a welcome addition to the residential construction industry as they receive their certifications, licenses and degrees.

The seven scholarship recipients for the fall 2019 semester are:

TAB ACCEPTING NOMINEES FOR THE 2019 HOUSING HALL OF HONOR

The Texas Housing Hall of Honor celebrates men and women who have made significant and lasting contributions to the Texas housing industry. Long-term advancements in the residential construction industry in Texas are the direct results of these twenty-five housing legends that compromise the Texas Housing Hall of Honor.

The Texas Association of Builders is now accepting nominations for the 2019 Texas Housing Hall of Honor. Inductees are selected annually from the categories of: builders, developers or remodelers; trades professionals and suppliers; government; and industry-allied professionals.

This year's inductees will be recognized at a black- tie ceremony on November 21, 2019 at the Excellence in Leadership Dinner in Austin, Texas. Deadline for nominations is June 30.

TAB LOST A LIFE DIRECTOR IN DAN MARSON LAST MONTH
TAB
Dan Markson, a dedicated member of the Texas Association of Builders and leader in the development of affordable housing, passed away May 4.

Dan, 59, was a TAB Life Director, a Life Delegate on NAHB's Leadership Council, and active member of the Greater San Antonio Builders Association (GSABA) and NAHB's Multifamily Council, where he served as a former chair.

Dan was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and attended Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, and went on to earn his MBA from Babson College. Since 2003, he served as Sr. Vice President of the NRP Group, overseeing the development operations including bond/tax credit and conventionally financed rental communities. Dan and the NRP Group won many local, state and national awards.

Dan was passionate about the builders association and served TAB, GSABA and NAHB for decades. In service to TAB, Dan was a founding member of the Multifamily Council, HOMEPAC Trustee, Government Relations Committee member, Executive Committee member, Texas Housing Hall of Honor Board of Governor and Trustee of the Texas Builders Foundation. He also served on numerous other committees and task forces. Dan previously served as president of the Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers.

He was instrumental in the formation of the NAHB/TAB/GSABA student chapter at St. Philip's College in San Antonio. Dan's vision and leadership helped launch the student construction trades program for students at this campus.

In addition to his development work, Dan was active in the local Jewish community. He served on the board of Temple Beth-El San Antonio and was previously a San Antonio Jewish Family Services board member.

Dan is survived by his four-year old son, Maury John Markson.
