GOP chief: Texas more competitive than some assume
San Antonio Express-News
Republicans are not resting on their laurels with less than two months until Election Day, Texas GOP chairman Steve Munisteri said Wednesday morning while suggesting Texas is a more "competitive state" than some people realize. "It's just that we've been winning the competition because we don't take it for granted and we don’t take anything for granted this election, but we feel very, very good," Munisteri told the Texas Tribune's Evan Smith in a joint interview with Gilberto Hinojosa, the chairman of the Texas Democratic Party.

Wendy Davis seeks to rouse dormant Democratic giant in Texas
MSNBC
Texas State Senator Wendy Davis, Democratic candidate for governor, talks with Rachel Maddow about how foregone conclusions about Republican election dominance has allowed the state's political discourse to stagnate and fostered a sense of hopelessness among Democrats and groups likely to vote Democratic. In her first cable news interview since the publication of her new memoir, "Forgetting to be Afraid," Davis explains why she thinks this burgeoning electorate is powerful enough to put her in the governor's office.

Davis criticized for leaving Texas to promote book
Houston Chronicle
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis is taking heat for leaving Texas to promote her new memoir at the height of campaign season, again setting off a debate about out-of-state travel in the governor’s race. The national promotion has raised some eyebrows back home, where her publisher, Penguin Random House, also set up at least one satellite interview, with the Fox affiliate in Dallas. An anchor for the channel took notice of Davis’ travel while posing his first question for her Wednesday morning.

Solid housing market show some small cracks
Houston Chronicle
The spring and summertime housing market frenzy, during which buyers eagerly waited in their cars or on sidewalks for open houses to start and sellers collected stacks of offers at well above their asking price soon after putting their homes up for sale, may be starting to ease. Data from the Houston Association of Realtors show a slight pullback in the market in past months, with the number of available listings creeping up and inventories on a slight incline.

New think tank taking a DIY approach
The Texas Tribune
Suppose you could ignore the elections and personalities and politics and get right down to shaping government policy. Maybe you need a think tank. You could set an agenda and focus on an issue or two, trying to persuade lawmakers and others to solve problems you think are important, and to solve them in a way that makes sense to you. Those are the policy shops of the private sector, doing out in the wild what government and university types do inside their institutions: studying problems, cooking up proposed solutions and recommending the results to policymakers.
