The Texas Association of Builders (TAB) announced the induction of Patsy Smith and George Lewis into the Texas Housing Hall of Honor on Aug. 9. Smith will become the second female to be inducted, while Lewis, a past TAB and Dallas BA President, will be the 25th inductee. The Housing Hall of Honor induction and Excellence in Leadership Dinner will be hosted on Thursday, Nov. 15 inside the Driskill Hotel in Austin.

Smith has been giving back to the residential construction industry for almost 60 years. Through the National Housing Endowment, she has donated over $1 million dollars in endowments and scholarships that have and will educate the future generations and leaders of the housing industry in Texas and the nation. Most recently, Smith established a sustaining endowment with the Texas Builders Foundation. Her contributions will ensure that men and women serving the building industry will receive the education, career development, training and job placement that are essential to the health of the home building industry. Smith, along with her late husband Herman, will become the first husband and wife duo inducted into the Texas Housing Hall of Honor.

Lewis' community service, political activism and professional leadership are mainstays of his life. He masterfully guided the Dallas Builders Association and the Texas Association of Builders through times of rapid change. His impact ranges from financial policies to building standards and government relations. Lewis is a legend in the political arena, where he has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars directly to pro-housing candidates in Texas and nationally. Lewis pioneered the "tear down and rebuild" concept in the Park Cities area of Dallas. His spectacular projects have earned him numerous awards and accolades. He served as the 2003 Dallas BA and 2006 TAB President.

In an effort to expedite the matching of builders, developers and remodelers to skilled tradespeople, the Texas Association of Builders (TAB) has launched Builders2Trades (B2T). This platform allows members to search for craftsmen by trade who are working in or are willing to relocate to the builder's area.

TAB worked with MultiView, the National Association of Home Builders, the Texas Workforce Commission, and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, to name a few, on populating the site with the names and contact information of tradespeople. The site is updated daily as new tradespeople are added to the list. All tradespeople are responsible for entering their information. TAB does not endorse or support the listed tradespeople or suppliers.

TAB Builder, Developer & Remodeler Members: To access the platform, click here to log in with your credentials. This platform is accessible to TAB members only. To become a member of one of our 27 local home builders associations, click here.

Tradespeople: If you would like to be added to the B2T listing to help with the rebuild along the coast or if you are looking to work in Texas, you may enter your information here and complete the necessary fields.

Suppliers: Texas also has a need for building products and services. If you would like to add your company's name to the B2T Products/Services search that builders and trades professionals will use to find suppliers in their areas, click here.
