Tri Pointe Homes builds new growth plan with buyout
Investor's Business Daily    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A couple of months ago Tri Pointe Homes was a smallish home builder with a heavy concentration in California and little fanfare on Wall Street. Today the company is poised to become one of the nation's 10 biggest builders as it prepares to move into a handful of new, high-growth markets from one coast to the other. For that, Tri Pointe can thank its proposed buyout of Weyerhaeuser Co.'s (WY) home building division in a $2.7 billion deal announced Nov. 4. More

Texas home insurance rates are no longer No. 1
The Dallas Morning News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Texas homeowners are no longer paying the highest insurance rates in the nation. But their premiums rank third among the states and are still well above the national average, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. The latest figures from the NAIC indicate that two other coastal states — Florida and Louisiana — now rank first and second in premiums paid by homeowners. Those states were just below Texas a year ago, but both saw larger annual rate increases than Texas in recent years. More

Fed taper remains guessing game
HousingWire    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Looking forward to the week ahead, one of the most anticipated events will be the meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee on Wednesday, Dec. 18, where Ben Bernanke will give his last press conference as chairman of the Federal Reserve. Most observers expect no major change in interest rates. There is, however, speculation about the Fed's Treasury and bond-purchase policy. Builder    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
When a home building company sees a sudden spike in the number of competitive shoppers wandering around their new model markets, it's a sure sign that a new design has taken hold. By Scott Wolfe    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
It's the time of the year for construction and materials companies to step back from the daily grind and evaluate the prior year's successes and failures, and to plan for the year ahead. Like it or not, the rising-tide-lifts-all-boats surge-in-sales-volume leg of housing's recovery was a fleeting few-month period that straddled the end of last year and the beginning of this one.
