State of the industry session features expert panel at NETInc. opening session

Four industry experts will present a State of the Industry panel discussion at the opening session of the Innovative Nonwovens Conference (NETInc) on Nov. 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. Moderated by TAPPI President and CEO Larry N. Montague, the panel will include Pierre Wiertz, general manager of EDANA; Michael Jänecke, brand manager of Techtextil; Rory Holmes, president of INDA; and Stephen Warner, CEO and president of IFAI. The conference will take place in Raleigh, N.C., from Nov. 10-12. More

A large number of countries are tightening up their regulations on energy saving for buildings as a result of climate change and rising energy costs. World fiber production fell by 0.7 percent in 2009 following a 6.8 percent decline in 2008. The fall in 2009 was due entirely to a 5.7 percent decline in natural fiber production. Man-made fiber output, by contrast, recovered, having increased by 2.4 percent after a 4.2 percent drop in 2008. However, the increase was confined largely to China and India. More

Buckeye Technologies Inc. announced first quarter net income of $64.4 million or $1.59 per share. First quarter earnings included net income of $51.3 million, or $1.26 per share, from cellulosic biofuel credits generated in 2009. This compared to net income of $39.2 million or $1 per share in the prior year comparable period, which included net income of $35.1 million, or $0.89 per share, from alternative fuel mixture credits ("AFMC"). Textile company Avgol adds new production line in US

Avgol Nonwoven Industries Ltd. has bought two more production lines for nonwoven fabrics for $80 million. The productions lines will enable the company to boost production by up to 30,000 tons of finished products a year. Avgol's current production at its plants in the North Carolina, Israel, China, and Russia is 110,000 tons of nonwoven fabrics a year. Avgol will install one production line at its factory in the United States, and will decide on the location of the second production line later one. Both lines are due to begin production during the first half of 2012. More
