TTDA 2013 Convention — A Success
EXPERIENCE TTDA 2013 featured two strong days of networking, finding business solutions and the learning about the latest technology and innovations in the tire industry. The event held at the popular Westin La Cantera in San Antonio brought the most successful Texas tire dealers together to focus on the challenges and opportunities facing the independent tire dealers in Texas.

The annual event included outstanding business speakers covering a wide range of issues from How to Sell to the Real Decision Maker to Guerrilla Marketing Ideas. Nationally known author and speaker Richard Lewis concluded the event with a presentation on Understanding the Ages and Stages of Your Customers/Employees.

The very popular Rapid Round Tables highlighted topics such as TPMS Updates; Health Care Today; National Legislative Issues; Texas Legislative Concerns; Marketing; and Labor/Immigration. Plus the exhibit displays highlighted a broad range of equipment, supplies and services for the tire dealer.

TTDA President Ron Martin, Martin Tire in El Paso noted, "We had the opportunity to discuss many important issues to the independent tire dealer in Texas. Of course one of the most significant is the legislative activities in Austin. SB 459 is not a positive direction for Texas tire dealers and we learned more about the provisions of this proposal and how we can voice our opinions to our legislators. TTDA is on the leading edge of what is happening in the tire industry and to provide our members with the most relevant information and resources available."

The Texas Tire Dealers Association is a nonprofit association representing the independent tire dealers of Texas. For more information or to join TTDA please visit our website: www.texastiredealers.org

Will selling used tires become illegal?!
Modern Tire Dealer
According to the Rubber Manufacturers Association, an estimated 20-25 million used tires enter the domestic market each year. How many of them are re-sold? The RMA wants to limit that; as a result, it is supporting Texas legislation that will, in essence, make selling an "unsafe" tire in Texas a punishable offense. TTDA opposses this legislation, and believes that there are current rules and regulations that handle the illegal dumping of used tires if the rules were properly enforced. Detroit Free Press
Finbar O'Neill, president of J.D. Power and Associates, painted a picture of a U.S. automotive industry that is healthy and getting stronger, while the global outlook is bright except for Europe. In the U.S., new vehicles sales have already rebounded by more than 10 percent annually since 2010. This year, U.S. industry sales of new cars and trucks should exceed 15.3 million, up from 14.4 million in 2012. By 2015, O'Neill said, sales of new cars and trucks should exceed 16.4 million. The forecasts depends on the continued recovery of the U.S. economy, no unexpected oil and gas price spikes and no major national security issues.
