RMA motors forward with tire-related legislation
Rubber News
Like any good lobbying effort, it is a game that usually requires a lot of push and pull action — and the Rubber Manufacturers Association's efforts on behalf of state bills regulating the sale of used tires have not been an exception. The RMA has made the drafting of model bills — like the used tire legislation — and their promotion in state legislatures a major, if not the major, factor in its government affairs activities. The trade group's activities in state legislatures have encompassed model bills for scrap tire management and tire repair, as well as fighting measures such as bills concerning tire age.

Define your personal core values
Inc.
Most concede the power of core values in business. But it's difficult to accurately create or accept core values for your company if your own personal core values are unclear. Much like company core values, your personal core values are there to guide behavior and choice. Get them right and you'll be swift and focused in your decision-making, with clear direction. Get them wrong or leave them ambiguous, and you'll constantly wonder how you got into this mess.

NHTSA harmonization work on tires continues
Tire Business
Work to create a global technical regulation for light vehicle tires continues under the auspices of the World Forum for the Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations, said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Light vehicle tires are among several categories being addressed by international working groups within WP-29. Work on a global technical regulation for vehicle tires began in September 2006, said NHTSA. The regulation would apply to radial passenger and light truck tires designed to be used on vehicles with a gross weight of 10,000 pounds or less. The five mandatory performance and labeling requirements for the standard include sidewall markings, tire dimensions, high-speed performance, low pressure and endurance performance, and wet grip performance

Benefits in federal health reform may not entice small businesses
HealthyCal
The federal Affordable Care Act kept the nation's employer-based health insurance system intact — and that decision may leave small business struggling to provide health care to their employees. The Affordable Care Act tries to fill cracks in the employer-based system, so that more people will have insurance and care will become more affordable for everyone. But critics say provisions in the Affordable Care Act aren't enough to ensure that small businesses can provide coverage to their employees. Some provisions may actually discourage employers from providing insurance.
