Tire, rubber industries support US-EU trade agreement
Rubber News
The Obama administration wants to create a free trade agreement between the U.S. and the European Union, and the tire and rubber product industries see this as a good thing. 6 year high in consumer optimism
Tire Review
American consumers are feeling the best they have about the economy since the start of the recent recession, according to a survey from the University of Michigan and Thomas Reuters. At its highest level since 2007, the consumer sentiment index rose to 85.1 in July from 84.1 the previous month. "The July survey suggests a growing resilience among consumers that will enable them to more easily withstand the cross-current inevitable in a slow-growth economy," said Richard Curtin, the chief economist for the consumer survey.

In a recent interview, David Strickland, the head of NHTSA, said auto makers must stay "within the zone of reasonable risk" to avoid recalls. That means not only adhering to federal safety standards at the time vehicles are built but also keeping up with the state of the art in design and technology among competitors.

On a macro level, the volume of small business loans increased from 21.3 million to 23.5 million from June 2011 to June 2012, according to the SBA Office of Advocacy's Small Business Lending in the United States 2012 study. Before the Great Recession, SBA small-business loans grew steadily throughout the 2000s and hit a peak in 2008 when the total reached $711.5 billion in loans outstanding. Tire sales drop in June, but there is hope
Modern Tire Dealer
According to Northcoast Research Holdings LLC research, demand trends for tires at the retail level slowed in June compared to the same period last year.
