Textile group supports EPA rule on shop towels

The Textile Rental Services Association of America has endorsed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's enactment of a final rule on solvent-contaminated wipes. The rule, published July 31 in the Federal Register, modified EPA hazardous-waste management regulations for solvent-contaminated wipes.

American automobile glut?

Yes, there's a glut of American automobiles and Bloomberg Business News says cars are piling up at the dealerships. That could be good news for folks who might be considering a new car purchase in August or September. Believe it or not, some 3.27 million new cars are now sitting on lots across the U.S., more than there have been in almost five years, according to Automotive News. A year ago at this time, by contrast, there were 2.7 million vehicles lying in wait across the country; summer 2011 saw an inventory of about 1 million fewer cars. Does that translate into a "buyer's market" today? Bet on it.

Federal judge limits debit card swipe fees

A federal judge has ruled that the Federal Reserve improperly inflated the fees banks and card companies are allowed to charge retailers when their customers swipe debit cards. The fees, according to the Washington staff of the Specialty Equipment Market Association, are currently set at $.21 per transaction plus $.01–$.03 more to cover fraud prevention and other adjustments.

Big banks, credit unions approve more small business loans

Protecting workers OSHA targets isocyanates

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has begun a "National Emphasis Program" designed to protect workers from occupational exposure to isocyanates. A spokesman for the flexible polyure-thane foam industry said it is too soon to tell the effect of the OSHA action on flexible polyurethane foam manufacturers. He said flexible foam is a cured product that doesn't emit isocyanates in either fabrication or use.
