Traditionally, independent tire dealers have been slow to adopt new software technology designed to help them run their dealerships better. Whether that’s due to being uncomfortable with technology and change, the cost of new software, not having a staff member who is trained to work in this area, or not seeing the benefits, many dealers and repair shop owners — especially single-location shops — have not stayed cutting edge.

Why do site selection if you're not planning to relocate?

Prior to negotiating a lease renewal, there is great value in conducting a site selection. Typically, many years have gone by since you last looked at available commercial properties, and it's time to do that again. The reason that so many commercial tenants resist doing this homework is they say they don't have the time, there isn't any good space for lease near them or they don't plan to move anyway. Why waste time and money looking at other locations?

Could Chinese tire tariff include trailer tires?

The National Association of Trailer Manufacturers has asked the U.S. Department of Commerce to exclude specialty trailer tires in the case it is investigating relative to unfair trade practices surrounding tires produced in China. NATM filed its comments with the DOC on Aug. 11. Although the scope of the DOC investigation is focused on passenger car and light truck tires, NATM members expressed concern it may encompass specialty trailer tires.

Yet another auto recall: Ford calls back 160,000 cars

Ford Motor Company announced yet another round of recalls Aug. 15, adding yet more numbers to the onslaught of recalls in the auto industry so far this year. Ford said it is calling back almost 160,000 Focus ST hatchbacks and Escape crossovers with 2013-2014 model years due to problems with the vehicles’ wiring that could cause their engines to stall out or lose power.

Shop owner accused of stealing another store's tires
Austin American-Statesman
Two men have been accused of trying to steal old tires to resell them from a Discount Tire store in South Austin, Texas, according to court documents. Martin Wayne Parker, 38, owner of Bird's Tire Shop, a used tire store at 3502 E. 7th Street, and Benjamin Pyle, 28, were charged with burglary of a building with bail set at $10,000 each, an arrest affidavit said.

Ferguson, Missouri, tire shop owner despondent over looting of store

The day after looting Aug. 17 in Ferguson, Missouri, between 16 and 20 businesses are cleaning up from the aftermath. Looters broke into stores over a 5-mile radius along West Florissant Avenue that lasted until 2 a.m. One of the businesses hit was Zisser Tire located in Dellwood in the 9900 block of West Florissant. Video shot by KTVI-TV showed looters going into the store and carrying out tire rims, tires and other items.
