Michelin study: Teens aren't taught tire safety

Michelin North America Inc. has released new data about driver's education and training in the United States which finds that teenagers often lack the essential knowledge and skills that can help keep them safe on the roads. "We found that teens are involved in 300,000 accidents a year that are tire-related, and that they're involved in tire-related accidents at a higher level than adult drivers," said Scott Clark, chief operating officer of Michelin North America’s Passenger Car And Light Truck Division.

Study: Recalls have little to no impact on residual values

In a record year for vehicle recalls, lenders have a rising number of recalled cars and light trucks in their portfolios of auto loans and leases. Not to worry, says a study by Black Book Lender Solutions. The study found that recalls have almost no effect on vehicle depreciation rates. Even widespread recalls with major press coverage had little to no effect on residual values, which represent the value of a used vehicle.

Firestone offers new steer tire

Bridgestone Americas recently introduced the Firestone FS561, an on-highway, all-position radial tire recommended for steering applications in regional and pickup and delivery use. The FS561 features are designed to reduce susceptibility to stone retention and drilling, common occurrences in high-scrub applications, the tiremaker said.

Goodyear's new blimp christened

Goodyear's newest airship, Wingfoot One, was officially christened Aug. 23 at the tiremaker's Wingfoot Lake Hangar in Suffield, Ohio, by Robin Roberts, the co-anchor of ABC News' "Good Morning America." More than 2,000 people gathered at the hangar for the ceremony, during which Ms. Roberts touched on her deep connections to both the Akron area and Goodyear. In 1918, her great-grandfather was recruited by the company and moved his family to Akron from Alabama, she said.

California close to TPMS legislation

The California state Legislature passed AB 1665, a bill that will require "an automotive repair dealer that repairs tires or changes tires shall be capable of diagnosing and servicing a tire pressure monitoring system in accordance with industry standards if the vehicle is manufactured with the device." The bill, which will be enforced by the California Department of Consumer Affairs' Bureau of Automotive Repair, was approved on Aug. 20 in a 75-2 vote. It now awaits the governor's signature.
