Retailers are giving procurement a bad name
It's not that unusual to hear stories about how some big retailers treat their suppliers – but it is unusual for a professional institute to come out and say that they are giving procurement a bad name. But that is just what the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply has done. In fact, it has produced a survey showing that 88 percent of supply chain managers think supplier bullying in the sector is giving procurement a bad name, with supply chain tractability singled out as a major area for improvement.

Report: North American industrial property market to see strong growth through 2017

The North American industrial real estate market is in a virtuous cycle that will last at least another three years, according to a forecast issued by global real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield. In its three-year forecast of trends in warehousing and distribution centers, as well as in manufacturing, Cushman said demand for industrial property is being propelled by businesses that have "gone on the offensive," led by a surge in hiring. The U.S. economy is expected to create 3 million jobs this year, according to the firm.

Clogged transit costs billions, highlights supply chain weaknesses
Both government and private research agree: America's freight system is under serious pressure, and supply chains are particularly vulnerable to the strain. Over the next two decades, 45 percent more freight will move over America's already crowded roads, rails, seas and skies, according to the Department of Transportation, which recently released a white paper, "Beyond Traffic 2045." The report highlights the need to ease congestion and warns that without a solution, companies are wasting significant funds on their procurement operations.

Pilot shows augmented reality could benefit warehouse operations

Could augmented reality play a meaningful role in logistics? Or is it just a gimmick or techno-fad? The results of a pilot project conducted in the Netherlands suggest that the concept of augmented reality may indeed prove useful, at least in a warehouse setting. The third-party logistics arm of DHL, together with its customer Ricoh and Ubimax GmbH, a developer of wearable computing solutions, tested smart glasses and augmented reality to implement "vision picking" in warehousing operations.
