The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has sent a letter to companies and other key stakeholders detailing the agency's concern over cargo and warehouse thefts of FDA-regulated products. Coordinated targeting of unsafe imports went into full swing April 26 with the signing of an agreement giving Consumer Product Safety Commission personnel full access to U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Automated Commercial System. The memorandum of understanding gives CPSC the ability to conduct import risk safety assessments and select high-risk shipments for inspections with the help of a computer program that sifts through data by comparing it to predetermined safety criteria. The economic recovery for the U.S. industrial sector is outpacing the national economy, according to results from ThomasNet's second Industry Market Barometer. Of the 1,176 industrial professionals responding to the Barometer survey, 27 percent report that their businesses grew during the second half of 2009 -- that's up from the 17 percent that reported growth during the first half-year. This year, the annual 3PL Market Report North America from eyefortransport focuses on the core issues supply chain and logistics companies are facing as they emerge from the global recession -- and as you might expect the results are somewhat of a mixed bag, revealing a healthy dose of cautious optimism. For instance, when asked how they think worldwide economic conditions will affect their companies' financial performance in the next 12 months, 36 percent of 3PLs, 47 percent of manufacturers/retailers, and 23 percent of solution providers said that growth will be slower than predicted.
