From the Director's Desk
Michael Boutot, ACAM Executive Director
This week we are running the first of three columns by public relations consultant and bestselling author, Julia Schopick. Julia’s book, HONEST MEDICINE: Effective, Time-Tested, Inexpensive Treatments for Life-Threatening Diseases, has consistently been an Amazon.com best seller since it was published in January of 2011.
In these three columns, Julia will share with ACAM members and followers one of the most underutilized online promotional strategies to grow one's medical practice and sell books: leaving comments on other people’s blogs. She believes that this strategy has contributed to making her book a huge success. If used correctly, she is confident that it can help you build your practice and increase your book sales. In these columns, she will teach you how to do this.
The first of Julia’s columns appears today, and her subsequent columns will appear for the following two weeks.
At the end of each column, Julia will invite ACAM members and followers to contact her for guidance in learning the technique she will be teaching. I hope you will take advantage of her generous offer so that you can use this promotional strategy to build your practice and sell books.
Sincerely,
Michael Boutot
Executive Director, ACAM

Vaping
By Zina Kroner, DO
If you are living and breathing, you have probably heard of vaping, a term for the use of e-cigarettes. I have had a least a dozen extremely health conscious, type-A, New York patients who have never smoked before, ask me if it is safe to start vaping. Honestly, I was quite surprised at how effective the marketing campaign for vaping has become. Some uber-cool lounges throughout the U.S. are luring those curious souls who are nicotine naive.

In a study of more than 600 older veterans, high doses of the vitamin delayed the decline in daily living skills, such as making meals, getting dressed and holding a conversation, by about six months over a two-year period.

Scientists to explore antioxidant overconsumption

As free-radical-forming poisons build up in our environment and bodies, antioxidants may ward off some of their harmful health effects. But free radicals have a silver lining, and too many antioxidants can do harm, say Cornell researchers. With a $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, the scientists will explore why in a project that could change preventive strategies and treatments for neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s and some forms of cancer.
