The next-generation airport is a destination in its own right

Robert Chicas is old enough to remember when air travel was glamorous. Born and raised in New York, he flew PanAm with his parents every summer to visit family in Central America, via Miami. Everyone dressed up; he and his brothers wore ties, and the flight attendants wore gloves. Airports, he says, were all about the destination: They celebrated one's arrival in a place. Nowadays, flying has more in common with mass transit. "It's like riding the bus," Chicas told me recently, with a wry note in his voice.More

ACC Institute Webinar
Small Community Air Service
September 16 | 12:30 – 2 p.m.
Due to a number of factors including the overall economic recession, fuel costs, airline bankruptcies and consolidation, and new rules on pilot training and rest, air service to many of our nation's small communities is in jeopardy. According to a report release by the Government Accountability Office in April of this year, from 2007 to 2013 small hub airports have seen a 20.1% decrease in flights and non-hubs have seen a 18.1% decrease. That all compares to only a 9.1% decrease at large hub airports over the same time period. Hear the latest trends and more importantly, what airports and communities are doing to save air service at this ACC Institute webinar.More
