State Transportation Officials to Give Out $12.2 Million in Stimulus-funded Grants to 10 Airports Across the State

State transportation officials will give out $12.2 million in stimulus-funded grants to 10 airports across the state by Sept. 30. The lion's share of the federal money, $3.5 million, will go to the Montgomery Airport to resurface and improve lighting on its main runway. More

London airports are continuing to suffer falls in passenger numbers, but Heathrow is showing some signs of stemming the rate of losses, according to the latest figures from BAA, the airports operator. More

Seoul's Incheon Airport Voted Best

South Korea's Incheon International Airport has been voted the best in the world, according to a 10-month survey of airline passengers. Incheon, located about 70 km (43 miles) from Seoul, often ranks among the busiest airports in the world. More

ACC Participates in ACRP Screening Panel
ACC Vice President T.J. Schulz participated in a screening panel that reviewed 210 research problem statements proposed for the FY 2010 TRB Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP). In July, ACC President Paula Hochstetler will participate in the ACRP Airport Oversight Committee meeting that will make final selections of research projects for the FY 2010 program.

Project Delivery Systems Summit IV
Over sixty representatives from airports, consulting firms and construction firms attended the Fourth Annual ACC/ACI-NA/AGC Airport Project Delivery Systems Summit in Savannah, Ga. Interactive sessions focused on navigating projects through the AIP approval process using alternative delivery methods, and how the application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) is changing the nature of the airport project delivery. Sessions were also held on techniques to create effective job order and guaranteed maximum price contracts. The Summit was made possible by sponsors Meridian Systems, Walbridge, Hill International, Turner Construction and Parsons.

Hochstetler Discusses Chinese Market
ACC President Paula Hochstetler met with Aviation Manager Gene Kingsbury and China Desk Officer Robyn Cicero from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Office of International Aviation to discuss the US/China Aviation Cooperation Program (ACP). The ACP promotes technical, commercial and policy cooperation and assists Chinese aviation experts in developing safe and efficient aviation infrastructure. Hochstetler reviewed opportunities available to ACC members to become more involved in airport development projects in China through this program. More

Robin Kane Appointed TSA Assistant Administrator for Office of Security Technology

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has named Robin Kane assistant administrator (AA) for the Office of Security Technology. After serving as acting AA since Dec. 2008, Kane has been permanently appointed to the AA position. In this capacity, he serves as the agency's chief technology officer, overseeing the implementation and development of security technologies across multiple modes of transportation. More
