In the wake of the global financial crisis of 2008, analysts urged corporate leaders to shift focus from short-term, quarterly results to long-term gains. But that advice has gone largely unheeded. According to a 2014 article from the Harvard Business Review: "The shadow of short-termism has continued to advance," and "companies are less able to invest and build value for the long term." The recession has also fuelled short-termism in the world of international student enrolment. Given today's fiscal challenges, competitive landscape and complex markets, the pressure to increase numbers has led colleges and universities to adopt quick fixes.

At PHA's upcoming Building a Healthier Future Summit in Washington D.C. February 25-27, 2015, a second cohort of campuses will be recognized onstage and nationally by PHA leadership. U.S. Study: College Students At Higher Risk Of Being Stalked
Business Standard
College students are at higher risk for stalking than the general public, but are less likely to report the crime to police, according to a new US study. The study found that stalking was more prevalent among college students than the general public, with 4.3 per cent of college students experiencing the crime in the last 12 months compared to 2.2 per cent of the general public. Yet, only one-quarter of college victims filed reports with police, compared to 32 per cent of the general population, according to a study based on data from the 2006 National Crime Victimization Survey, Stalking Victimization Supplement.

When Tel Kelley began his college search, he knew he wanted to go to a big school with a top-notch sports medicine program and big-time intercollegiate teams. But as his senior year began at Alamosa High School in Alamosa, Colorado, Kelley started hearing over and over again from about a dozen schools he’d never contacted and in which he had no interest. He estimates that each school sent him two to three emails a week, plus letters and brochures encouraging him to apply.
