With the official kick-off of ACPA 2014 only 17 days away, many of us have started pulling together our travel information, checking out the Online Convention Schedule and Guidebook App to build our itineraries, and contacting old friends to meet for the Opening and meals. These pieces have, as their core premise, the anxiety that emerges when students and parents have their eyes and hearts set on a small range of elite colleges and universities, admission to which is highly competitive and, for most applicants, quite unpredictable. The uncertainty causes the anxiety."

Update On Binge Drinking Among College Students: From Bad To Worse

Recent data on college age drinking from NIH, specifically the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism — its first update since an initial review in 1976 — has brought to light the significant consequences of binge drinking among college students. While the incidence of regular drinking has remained stable, the incidence of binge drinking has sharply increased. With it, the many adverse effects of overconsumption of alcohol can be life shattering not only among individuals and friends, but families. This report serves as a reminder of the serious effects of alcohol that may begin in youth and extend into young adulthood.

America's colleges and universities are quietly shifting the burden of their big tuition increases onto low-income students, while many higher-income families are seeing their college costs rise more slowly, or even fall, an analysis of federal data shows. It's a trend financial-aid experts and some university administrators worry will further widen the gap between the nation's rich and poor as college degrees — especially four-year ones — drift beyond the economic reach of growing numbers of students.

ACPA Books & Media (BAM) is seeking an Editor to begin in March 2014. We are seeking individuals with a research background and a record of scholarly productivity. The BAM Editor has primary responsibility for the work of the Books and Media board, including soliciting and assisting in the development of proposals for new works; support of book authors and editors as they develop manuscripts; selection, training, and supervision of the associate editors and review board members; and keeping the ACPA International Office, Governing Board, and the publisher informed of the status of all projects. ACPA
The ACPA Books & Media Board (BAM) Editors seek ACPA members who have a record of scholarship and expertise to evaluate book manuscripts and other media for publication. The Books and Media Board solicits and approves book proposals and other media for publication through ACPA and its publisher. Board members also serve as editorial consultants on completed manuscripts and media addressing theoretical and administrative issues in student affairs and college student learning.
