Foreign Graduate Admissions Rise, Applications Slow

American graduate schools are showing continued interest in students from overseas, but there are signs that the feelings aren't mutual. A report released by the Council of Graduate Schools says offers of admissions to international applicants grew at a steady pace of 9% from 2012 to 2013, making it the fourth consecutive year of growth

With a schedule of early-morning lectures, cramming in study time between classes, making it to work on time and still finding time for a social life, college students may be feeling the pressure to keep all their plates spinning at the same time. Many students are working during college to support themselves financially, something experts say is like working two full-time jobs. A U.S. Census report determined that 71 percent of the nation's 19.7 million college undergraduates were working in 2011 and of that number, one in five undergrads were working at least 35 hours a week year-round.

U.S. News Data: Online Education Isn't Always Cheap

As a working mother of two, 37-year-old Heather Blair felt the only way she could get a bachelor's degree was to find an online program that accommodated her busy schedule. Cost-wise, she thought she knew how it would compare with the price of an on-campus degree. "I thought it would be less," says Blair, who started a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene with Vermont Technical College in 2009. "In the end, I don't think it was."

Data From Google On Education Searches
Inside Higher Ed
According to Google, "Every day Google answers more than one billion questions from people around the globe in 181 countries and 146 languages. 15 percent of the searches we see every day we've never seen before." By analyzing these search queries, Google is in a unique position to spot trends. Google's Education Team recently released data related to education search. The report analyzes search volume over time using data unique to Google. They separate search queries into five categories: brand terms (includes an institution name); program terms (business, psychology); general terms (online education); degree terms (includes the level of the degree) and MOOC terms. Here are three trends they discussed.
