The final deadline to submit entries for the AGTA Spectrum Awards™ is next Tuesday, Oct. 6 in New York City. Jewelry pieces and loose gemstones must be dropped off in person between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm at the offices of Intercolor USA at 48 W. 48th St., Ste. 800. Entry forms must accompany each piece. Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America has scheduled a series of At the Bench Live demonstrations for its MJSA Expo West Pavilion. The seminars will take place daily Feb. 2-7 at AGTA GemFair Tucson. Conducted by some of the industry's most renowned designers and jewelers, the interactive sessions will cover a range of solutions for bench challenges, from using CAD/CAM in the setting of fancy-cut gems, to the repurposing of gem-set heirlooms. The Hope Diamond Stands Alone

The Hope Diamond, the Smithsonian's rock for all ages, that wonderful indigo blue 45.52 carat gem stone, is once again in the spotlight. As part of the diamond’s on-going 50th-anniversary celebration of its arrival at the National Museum of Natural History, curators will remove the diamond from its classic Cartier-designed platinum setting and put the naked stone on exhibit for the next six months. Meanwhile, a new, temporary setting is being hand-crafted by the renowned New York jeweler, Harry Winston Inc, and the Hope will go on view in April 2010 dressed up its new attire. Another 'Largest Diamond Ever' Find in South Africa

One of the largest, high quality diamonds discovered to date has been found at a mine in South Africa, mining group Petra Diamonds has revealed. The 507 carat stone, which could be worth in excess of $20 million, was found with three other large diamonds.
