AGTA Announces 2010 Election Results

The American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) announced the results of the 2010 AGTA Board of Directors elections. Peter Bazar of Imperial-Deltah, Inc., Sushil Goyal of Liberty Gems, Inc., and Cynthia Renee Zava of Cynthia Renee, Co. were all elected to three-year terms as Directors. These terms will take effect at the 2010 AGTA Membership Meeting at GemFair Tucson. MORE

Once thought to be one of the most expensive rubies in the world, the 4.6 pound purple rock was listed in the assets of now collapsed Wrekin Construction Company. But after examination by experts on behalf of administrators Ernst & Young, the stone was "not thought to be of sufficient gem quality" to cut. More

Bonham's London sale garners $3 million

Diamonds and colored stones performed well at Bonham's fine jewelry auction, held in London on Sept. 23, 2009. The sale garnered a total of $3 million, with 77 percent sold by lot. The top lots included an art deco aquamarine, sapphire and diamond sautoir by Cartier and an 8.23-carat, round brilliant-cut diamond single-stone ring. More
FTC to enforce Red Flags Rule Nov. 1

The goal of such a program is to prevent thieves from stealing identity information for fraudulent purposes and to detect and prevent efforts to steal identity data in order to perpetrate identity theft. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will open its doors for its free, annual Jewelry Career Fair and Open House, an all-day event running on Friday, October 16. This is one of the few times when visitors can see the GIA's museum without having to pre-arrange a visit. For those interested in education, classroom demonstrations will be held throughout the day so visitors can learn more about gemological education when they tour the institute. More
