CEUs available — AGI/AIPG Geoscience Online Learning Initiative (GOLI)
AIPG and American Geosciences Institute
GOLI on-demand online courses provide learners with the flexibility to self-pace their progress, since on-demand courses do not have a set schedule like traditional academic semester-based courses. Brought to you via the OpenedX Learning Management System (LMS), learners are able to browse course descriptions, enroll in specific courses, access content, and complete any course completely free of charge. All learners who complete online courses offered through the GOLI platform with a passing grade of 70% or higher are eligible to purchase Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for a nominal charge.

Register for WCOGS's three-part webinar series
American Geosciences Institute
The World Community of Geological Survey Organizations (WCOGS) is pleased to sponsor a three-part webinar series that brings together representatives from multiple geological surveys organizations to provide an update on the latest geoscience results and to discuss future critical mineral research. The Critical Minerals Forum will be hosted as a set of three regional sessions (Americas, Europe and Africa, and Asia and Oceania). Each regional forum will feature lectures from science policy experts and geoscientists during a live plenary and moderated discussion session with attendees.
The Critical Minerals Forum sessions are as follows:
- Americas — February 12 — The role of geological survey organizations to advance critical mineral research
- Europe and Africa — February 19 — The past, present, and future directions of critical mineral research
- Asia and Oceania — February 26 — Geoscience to support critical mineral discovery
Please contact Christopher Lawley with any questions about this webinar series.

Exceptions to bed-controlled ice sheet flow and retreat from glaciated continental margins worldwide
Science Advances
Projections of ice sheet behavior hinge on how ice flow velocity evolves and the extent to which marine-based grounding lines are stable. Ice flow and grounding line retreat are variably governed by the coupling between the ice and underlying terrain. We ask to what degree catchment-scale bed characteristics determine ice flow and retreat, drawing on paleo-ice sheet landform imprints from 99 sites on continental shelves worldwide.

Physical weathering of rock breakdown more important than previously recognized
University of Wyoming via ScienceDaily
Research led by the University of Wyoming shows that physical weathering is far more important than previously recognized in the breakdown of rock in mountain landscapes. Because it is difficult to measure, physical weathering has commonly been assumed to be negligible in previous studies.

Selective flotation of elemental sulfur from pressure acid leaching residue of zinc sulfide
Minerals
An efficient flotation process was developed to selectively recover elemental sulfur from a high-sulfur pressure acid leaching residue of zinc sulfide concentrate. The process mineralogy analysis showed that the sulfur content reached 46.21%, and 81.97% of the sulfur existed as elemental sulfur, which was the major mineral in the residue and primarily existed as pellet aggregate and biconical euhedral crystal.

A 30-month seafloor test of the A-0-A method for calibrating pressure gauges
Frontiers in Earth Science
Geodetic observations in the oceans are important for understanding plate tectonics, earthquake cycles and volcanic processes. One approach to seafloor geodesy is the use of seafloor pressure gauges to sense vertical changes in the elevation of the seafloor after correcting for variations in the weight of the overlying oceans and atmosphere. A challenge of using pressure gauges is the tendency for the sensors to drift. The A-0-A method is a new approach for correcting drift.
