Submittals are due April 15 and awarded in the fall at the AIPG National Conference.
Your submittals may be done online or emailed to aipg@aipg.org.
The AIPG Student Chapter of the Year Award replaced the AIPG Student Chapter Annual Report because it covers the same information. It is still a requirement for all chapters to provide this information to the AIPG National Headquarters with the online submittal form or send the information via email to aipg@aipg.org by April 15 to be eligible for award or by May 1 to meet requirement.

1. Seal the borehole completely against cross connection 2. Map the DNAPL in fractures on the 1" scale 3. Map the dissolved species on the 6"-24" scale 4. Measure the conductivity profile on the 6" scale 5. Measure the head profile on the 5'-20' scale
Using the same blank liner. That is efficient! How?

This course is intended as a basic review of seismic prospecting methods for locating and extracting oil and gas global resources. It begins with a review of world hydrocarbon reserves, production and consumption, as well as overall goals and methods which apply to petroleum exploratory efforts. It then concentrates on the specific importance of the seismic method in the modern search and development of these reserves. This course will take about 10 hours to complete.
The course contains two parts, which are broken into 10 sections of content. Within each section, learners will have to complete course assessments. There is also a mid-course reading and writing activity, as well as a final exam after section 10.
Obtaining Continuing Education Units — If your course grade is at least 70 percent, you may apply for 1.0 CEU credit.

The Geoscience Online Learning Initiative (GOLI) is an initiative by the American Geosciences Institute, started in cooperation with the American Institute of Professional Geologists, to provide a platform for asynchronous, life-long learning and continuing education opportunities in the geosciences. The long-term vision for GOLI is to provide a platform for geoscience societies to host asynchronous learning modules for use in both professional continuing education and for professional topics to help students be better prepared for entering the geoscience workforce. AGI is interested in providing this platform with the hope that Member Societies will create a transparent marketplace for learning opportunities and CEUs/micro-credentials that are transferrable across the entire profession.
GOLI live webinar courses provide up to date information on technical and applied geoscience topics and are taught by a range of experts from across the geosciences. Attendees earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) upon the completion of the webinar course.
GOLI asynchronous online courses provide learners with the flexibility to actively self-pace their progress, because asynchronous courses do not have a set schedule like traditional academic semester-based courses. Brought to you via the Open edX Learning Management System (LMS), learners are able to browse course descriptions, enroll in specific courses, access content, and complete any course completely free of charge. All learners who complete online courses offered through the GOLI platform with a passing grade of 70 percent or higher are eligible to purchase Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for a nominal charge.

Many geological and related engineering professional associations were founded in the 19th and early 20th centuries but ethics codes were generally not adopted until after WWII. The AAPG Code of Ethics was the first code and was adopted in 1924. Codes have changed over the years for a variety of reasons as has their organization. There are common principles in the codes like honesty, integrity, transparency, etc. Most codes also explicitly state that protection of the public's health, safety and welfare supersedes employer/client confidentiality. Emerging additions to ethics codes include statements about harassment and discrimination, sustainable development and global human welfare. Whether an ethics code requires enforcement procedures, the implications of enforcing an ethics code, and the characteristics of effective disciplinary procedures are reviewed.

Plan on attending AIPG's 2018 Annual Meeting in Colorado Springs. Our field trips will explore central Colorado including the Cripple Creek & Victor gold mine, the Portland cement plant and adjacent Niobrara Fm quarry, the upper Arkansas geothermal systems, the latest in SW South Park geology and the Wall Mountain Tuff, among others. The technical sessions will cover the full spectrum of geosciences; start thinking about your presentation. We're planning short courses on being an expert witness, the use of Rockware's software and preparing an AIPG/AGI GOLI course. We'll have a Student Career Day on Saturday, Sept. 8. Young professionals start working on a presentation on a project you're working on that will induce your employer to send you to the meeting; remember such presentations are also good marketing for your firm. And we're arranging a trip on the Pikes Peak Cog Railway to the 14,115-foot summit of America's mountain.
Submit an abstract for presentation at the conference. Call for abstracts available now!

Frequency–size relation of earthquakes in a region can be approximated by the Gutenberg-Richter law (GR). This power-law model involves two parameters: a-value measuring seismic activity or earthquake productivity, and b-value describing the relation between frequencies of small and large earthquakes. The spatial and temporal variations of these two parameters, especially the b-value, have been substantially investigated. However, the physical meaning and properties of b-value including its value range still remain as an open fundamental question.

Fossils that preserve entire organisms (including both hard and soft body parts) are critical to our understanding of evolution and ancient life on Earth. However, these exceptional deposits are extremely rare. New research suggests that the mineralogy of the surrounding earth is key to conserving soft parts of organisms, and finding more exceptional fossils. The work could potentially support the Mars Rover Curiosity in its sample analysis, and speed up the search for traces of life on other planets.

Hydrological signatures are now used for a wide range of purposes, including catchment classification, process exploration and hydrological model calibration. The recent boost in the popularity and number of signatures has however not been accompanied by the development of clear guidance on signature selection, meaning that signature selection is often arbitrary. Here we use three complementary approaches to compare and rank 15 commonly-used signatures,.

The metasedimentary sequence of the Cushamen Formation in the western North Patagonian Massif is 540 meters thick and comprises six sedimentary lithofacies associations related to a glacimarine environment. Four of these lithofacies represent distal glacimarine environments, whereas another one was deposited in proximal glacimarine environments, and the last includes subglacial environments. The organization and configuration of these lithofacies associations represent the advance and retreat of the glacier masses.

Gaseous and liquid fluids in agates (banded chalcedony-SiO2) of different localities were investigated systematically by thermogravimetry-mass-spectrometry within a temperature range from 25 to 1,450 degrees Celcius, for the first time. Chalcedony and macrocrystalline quartz from 12 agate samples were investigated, from Germany, Brazil, Scotland and the U.S. They originate from mafic and felsic volcanic rocks as well as hydrothermal and sedimentary environments. The results were evaluated regarding compounds of hydrogen with fluorine, chlorine, nitrogen, carbon and sulphur.

Variations of the geomagnetic field prior to direct observations are inferred from archeo- and paleomagnetic experiments. Seemingly unusual variations not seen in the present day and historical field are of particular interest to constrain the full range of core dynamics.
Recently, archeomagnetic intensity spikes, characterized by very high field values that appear to be associated with rapid secular variation rates, have been reported from
several parts of the world.
