In addition, the need for rare earth elements as well as reliable sources of fresh water are in high demand. AIPG believes mentoring is integral to encouraging geoscientists throughout their careers. This can include discussions on many different topics, including but not limited to:
- specific geoscience topics or questions
- education and experience required for specific career tracks
- any geoscience topic of interest
- geoscience employment search
- selecting the best-suited geoscience career track
- work abroad experiences in geosciences
AIPG is setting up this mentor site to encourage one-on-one AIPG-member discussions. We encourage the mentor and mentee to include others in their discussions and research as needed. A mentor may or may not have applicable experience or knowledge related to a mentee's area of interest, but the mentor will help find information and/or an alternate mentor.
AIPG Members interested in becoming a Mentor can submit the online Mentor form.

Possible zero waste solutions for the remediation of PFAS — An overview of emerging onsite destruction technologies
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are recalcitrant by nature and can be costly to remediate using traditional treatment strategies. These strategies typically lack an effective waste management strategy. In recent years, industry and research entities have made strides in developing new and innovative approaches to destroying PFAS onsite rather than having to dispose of high concentration waste at offsite treatment and/or disposal facilities. In this presentation, attendees will be provided an overview of these emerging technologies for the onsite destruction of PFAS waste streams that when incorporated into the primary treatment process/train have the potential to provide a zero "waste" outcome.

Solar energy explains fast yearly retreat of Antarctica's sea ice

In the Southern Hemisphere, the ice cover around Antarctica gradually expands from March to October each year. During this time the total ice area increases by 6 times to become larger than Russia. The sea ice then retreats at a faster pace, most dramatically around December, when Antarctica experiences constant daylight.

The Greenland Ice Sheet is the second largest ice body in the world, and it has the potential to contribute significantly to global sea-level rise in a warming global climate. On Jupiter's moon Europa, 'chaos terrains' could be shuttling oxygen to ocean

Salt water within the icy shell of Jupiter's moon Europa could be transporting oxygen into an ice-covered ocean of liquid water where it could potentially help sustain alien life, according to a team of researchers led by The University of Texas at Austin.
This theory has been proposed by others, but the researchers put it to the test by building the world's first physics-based computer simulation of the process, with oxygen hitching a ride on salt water under the moon's "chaos terrains," landscapes made up of cracks, ridges and ice blocks that cover a quarter of the icy world.

Ancient helium leaking from core offers clues of Earth's formation

Helium-3, a rare isotope of helium gas, is leaking out of Earth's core, a new study reports. Because almost all helium-3 is from the Big Bang, the gas leak adds evidence that Earth formed inside a solar nebula, which has long been debated.
Helium-3 has been measured at Earth's surface in relatively small quantities.
