This year the 56th meeting of the American Institute of Professional Geologists National Conference is being held in the beautiful lakeside city of Burlington, Vermont. This years' conference, "Geology in the Green Mountains: Scenic Beauty and Economic Engine," is being held from Saturday, Sept. 14 through Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the DoubleTree in Burlington, Vermont — merely a stones' throw from the University of Vermont campus. The middle of September in Vermont will bring with it comfortably warm days and cool nights, the leaves will have just started turning into a myriad of quintessential fall colors, and the sunsets over the Adirondack mountains to the west will be breathtaking. The Northeast Section is co-hosting this event and we couldn't be more excited!

The National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) along with the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) invite you to submit an abstract for consideration for a session on licensure and certification to be held at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting in San Francisco, California from Dec. 9-13.
ASBOG and AIPG are seeking presentations on the importance of professional licensure and certification in the geosciences. As graduating students and early career professionals try to establish their careers, it is important to know where licensure is required to work as a geoscientist and what sectors see professional certification as necessary and useful.

Groundwater may be out of sight, but for more than 100 million Americans who rely on it for their lives and livelihoods it's anything but out of mind. Unfortunately, wells are going dry and scientists are just beginning to understand the complex landscape of groundwater use. Now, researchers have published the first comprehensive account of groundwater wells across the contiguous United States.
They analyzed data from nearly 12 million wells throughout the country in records stretching back decades. Their findings appear in the journal Nature Sustainability.

Before Neil Armstrong could take his "small step for a man" on July 20, 1969, he and the rest of the Apollo 11 crew underwent a rigorous regimen of training to prepare for their mission to the moon. While much of their instruction took place inside the classroom and at testing facilities, NASA also charged the astronauts with tasks like collecting geological specimens. To make their training as realistic as possible, the crew trained at sites right here on Earth that looked eerily similar to the topography of the moon.
