CO2 in the deep Earth may be more active than previously thought and may have played a bigger role in climate change than scientists knew before, according to a study by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
The research, led by Prof. PAN Ding, looked into the dissolution of CO2 in water, which has significant implications on ways to reduce the return of carbon from underground to the atmosphere.

Mars was once covered by 300-meter deep oceans, study shows
ScienceDaily
Mars is called the red planet. But once, it was actually blue and covered in water, bringing us closer to finding out if Mars had ever harboured life.
Most researchers agree that there has been water on Mars, but just how much water is still debated.
Now a study from the University of Copenhagen shows that some 4.5 billion years ago, there was enough water for the entire planet to be covered in a 300-metre-deep ocean.

'Ancient Yellowstones' are buried to the southwest
Billings Gazette
The youngest part of the Yellowstone hotspot left a trail of volcanic products that begins in northern Nevada and southern Oregon about 17 million years ago, with the volcanic rocks becoming younger as the track stretches across southern Idaho to Yellowstone National Park. The volcanic rocks are the products of ancient eruptions from systems that looked very much like the Yellowstone Caldera does today.
