Greenland ice sheet: Short-lived ice streams
ScienceDaily
Major ice streams can shut down, shifting rapid ice transport to other parts of the ice sheet, within a few thousand years. This was determined in reconstructions of two ice streams, based on ice-penetrating radar scans of the Greenland ice sheet, that a team of researchers led by the Alfred Wegener Institute have just presented in the journal Nature Geoscience.

Convergent plate boundaries: All you need to know
Interesting Engineering
Ever stop to think about how Earth's colossal mountains came to be? Take the Himalayan mountain range in Asia, for example, containing more than 3,000 named peaks, one of which — mount Everest in Nepal — is the tallest on the planet. Better yet, how did some of the world's profound underwater structures form? For instance, the Mariana trench contains the deepest location on Earth.

Researchers' study predicted location of Mauna Loa eruption
Phys.org
Research conducted by a University of Miami scientist and his graduate assistant accurately predicted which of the two rift zones of Hawaii's Mauna Loa volcano would erupt.
The Mauna Loa, the world's largest active volcano, began erupting on Nov. 27 for the first time in nearly 40 years, spewing lava 100 feet to 200 feet into the air.

Mars may actually have an active mantle plume deep beneath its surface
ZME Science
For all its Earth-like characteristics, Mars is surprisingly barren: it doesn't have a thick atmosphere, it doesn't have any seas or rivers, and it doesn't even have active geology. It’s barren, inactive, and boring. Or is it?
Mars is definitely not the lush, thriving environment the Earth is, and it's not nearly as friendly to water (or with life) as our planet.

Seventy percent of Florida's coral reefs are eroding, new study finds
EurekAlert!
A new study found that 70 percent of Florida's reefs are eroding and experiencing net loss of reef habitat. The research, conducted by an interdisciplinary group of scientists through the NOAA Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Science, provides new information on the state of Florida's world-famous coral reefs.
