Laurentian University vote a good sign for mining education

On Sept. 14, a crucial vote took place that would dictate the future of Sudbury’s Laurentian University, one of Canada’s premier mining education schools. Due to insolvency, the post-secondary institution announced in February 2021 that it would be filing for creditor protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA).

Climate changed: Quebec farmers improve soil as water supply becomes less reliable

On the Beauchemin family farm in southern Quebec, the problem used to be too much water. But Raphaël Beauchemin says that over the years, his grandfather, father and uncles learned how to cope.
Now, with the changing climate, he said, Fermes J.N. Beauchemin et Fils faces a new challenge: long dry periods in the summer.

River longer than the Thames beneath Antarctic ice sheet could affect ice loss

An unexpected river under the Antarctic ice sheet affects the flow and melting of ice, potentially accelerating ice loss as the climate warms.
The 460 kilometre-long river is revealed in a new study, which details how it collects water at the base of the Antarctic ice sheet from an area the size of Germany and France combined.
