A recent Department of Transportation final rule and technical amendment (published in the Federal Register on Sept. 27 at 76 FR 59574) established the authority for use of a new Federal Drug Testing Custody and Control Form. As a reminder, DOT extended the expiration date of the old CCF to Nov. 30, to coincide with the form's original expiration date. The use of DOT's new CCF, which has been available since Sept. 30, is required starting Dec. 1. More

If you're looking for a bit of a silver lining around the dark clouds that have been overshadowing our industry a good sector to start with is cabin upgrades and refurbishment. One reason that the U&R segment hasn't slumped quite as much as other areas is due in large part to its diversity. While one side of the business, new green aircraft completions has slowed, the updating and full-on refurbishment of older aircraft interiors has done a pretty good job of taking up the slack. More

Airports come in all shapes and sizes and can provide pilots with opportunities for both education and enjoyment at any level. This is the focus of the November/December 2011 issue of FAA Safety Briefing, which takes an in-depth look at the nation's wide array of public-use airports. Articles highlight the benefits of exploring new places to land as well as help raise awareness of runway safety and wildlife hazards.

ARSA's Positive Publicity Campaign is the aviation maintenance industry's chief advocate. The PPC tells of the maintenance industry's important role in ensuring a safe and efficient global civil aviation system, and it alerts lawmakers and other key audiences to facts about the industry's economic and employment benefits through important research projects.

However, repair stations remain a favorite target of those seeking to disparage the aviation system. Through the PPC, ARSA actively counters misinformed stories about the industry's safety record and regulatory compliance.

The PPC is a separate ARSA fund supported by leading aviation maintenance companies dedicated to improving the climate for repair stations. For the campaign to build upon is success, we need your involvement and support.

Revival for airport engine testing facility

A Florida company will bring new lift to a former US Airways engine testing facility at Pittsburgh International Airport. FJ Turbine Power Inc. of Hialeah, Fla., will rent about half of the building to test jet engines under a 10-year lease agreement approved by the Allegheny County Airport Authority board. More

Lufthansa Technik set to expand Middle East activity

Lufthansa Technik said it will expand its activities in the Middle East region by setting up a new company headquartered in Dubai. Lufthansa Technik Middle East Services, or LTMES, will bundle all the Middle East sales and service activities currently pursued by a variety of members of the international Lufthansa Technik Group. $12 billion order for GE Aviation

GE Aviation and its joint venture announced $12 billion in engine orders and services at the opening of the Dubai Air Show. The largest was a contract valued at $6 billion for GE90-115B engines for 50 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, ordered by Dubai-based Emirates airline. The agreement also included a 12-year maintenance, repair and overhaul agreement. More

Final Documents: This list includes Federal Register, or FR, publications such as proposed and final rules, Advisory Circulars, or ACs, orders, notices, policy statements and related material of interest to ARSA members. The date shown is the date of FR publication or other official release.

Your Two Cents: Provides you with the opportunity to provide input on rules and guidance that will affect you. Agencies must provide the public with notice and an opportunity for comment before their rules change. Your input matters. Comments should be received before the indicated due date; however, agencies often consider comments they receive before drafting of the final document begins.
