The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently published a letter offering clarification on how to calculate workload when a rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) is conducted during a fine needle aspiration (FNA) procedure.
According to the letter, a slide assessment for specimen adequacy, that does not include a diagnosis, should not count as a slide examination and would not be counted toward an individual’s daily workload. The letter goes on to explain that workload limits should be set in accordance with CLIA regulations. To read the full text of the letter click here.

Prostate cancer cells rely on protein synthesis to fuel their growth, but there can be too much of a good thing: Prostate tumors that are flooded with protein will actually die. Research has shown that treatment-resistant prostate cancer has a built-in stress response — an automatic brake that prevents protein synthesis from getting out of control and killing the cancer cells.
