The rate of HPV vaccination among teen boys in the United States surged in 2015, suggesting that more parents and physicians are embracing the message that it's as important for boys to be vaccinated against the human papillomavirus as it is for girls.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 49.8 percent of boys ages 13 to 17 had gotten at least one of the recommended three doses as of 2015, up 8 percentage points from 2014. Since then, the human papillomavirus vaccine has been rolled out across 130 countries and halved the number of new cervical cancers.

"It helps not only control cervical cancer but also the oropharyngeal cancer — the cancers inside the mouth that are caused by these viruses," Prof Frazer, chief executive of the Translational Research Institute, said.

Despite a higher risk for HPV-negative orophayngeal squamous cell carcinoma, poor oral health appears to be associated with OPSCC regardless of HPV status, a study published in the journal Cancer has shown. Although poor oral health, including smoking, have been linked to an increased risk for developing head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, including OPSCC, the impact of HPV status on the association between poor oral health and OPSCC cancer risk remains unclear.

The virologist and cancer researcher Dr. Jian Zhou had an important goal after creating a vaccine for the cancer-causing human papillomavirus in a Queensland laboratory.
He wanted to see the vaccine made widely available in his home country of China, which today accounts for more than 28 percent of the world’s cervical cancer cases. Cervical cancer is also the second most common cancer in Chinese women aged between 15 and 44.

Training videos, educational webinars and use of electronic health records (EHRs) are among the strategies used by six AAP chapters to improve HPV immunization rates.
The Academy and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend HPV vaccine for girls and boys at age 11 or 12 years. However, coverage remains lower than for other recommended adolescent vaccines.
The Academy awarded grants to six chapters to identify opportunities to increase adolescent immunization rates, with a focus on the HPV vaccine. Each chapter developed a program to fit the needs of pediatricians and families in their state. Following is a summary of each chapter’s efforts.

In August 1996, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act — more commonly known as HIPAA — was signed into law by then-President Bill Clinton. Twenty years later, with Clinton's wife possibly on the verge of a presidency of her own, HIPAA still remains a pivotal point of policy and contention throughout the lexicon of the American healthcare system. Despite its age and divisiveness, HIPAA still matters.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is associated with reduced cancer-specific survival among women with invasive cervical cancer, according to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
