I don’t remember when it was that I first heard the concept of choosing a word for the year rather than making a New Year’s resolution, but I like it. A resolution or task always felt too likely to fail (and I lost count of how many times I made “lose weight” my resolution – which is both cliché and not really a healthy mindset – for me at least). A word can be more broadly interpreted. For 2023, I’ve chosen the word “wellness.” That can be physical wellness, mental wellness, relationship wellness, financial wellness, etc. Each day, I try to ask myself “How am I serving my wellness?” Sometimes it’s knocking a lot off my to-do list or doing yoga. Other days, it's setting the to-do list aside to take my daughter to the playground, or skipping yoga so I can go to bed early. Do you have a word, an intention, a resolution for 2023?
Cheers, Holly Leber Simmons, ASJA Weekly Editor

When a journalist's actions become the focus of a murder trial
Poynter

Among the journalists, one stood out to deputies and court staff managing the proceedings. “There’s only one person you have to look out for,” a courthouse staffer said without a whiff of irony.
