ASJA
Dates have been set for the next Virtual Client Connections where you can meet editors and agents and find new markets. This virtual event will be held Feb. 26-March 1, with sign-ups on ASJA's website beginning at 2 p.m. EST on Feb. 12. Stay tuned to the forums, ASJA Weekly and the Client Connections page on ASJA's website for news of participating editors/agents.
Not sure if this is right for you? Many of our members have been successful finding new markets through VCC, which is offered several times a year, and through which members are connected with editors and agents by phone or Skype.
Virtual Client Connection Chair Kristine Hansen and her team of volunteers are sending out invites now to editors/agents and welcome your suggestions. Is there a market you're dying to break into or an editor you know is freelancer-friendly? Or maybe you'd like to volunteer to help send out invites or serve as a host to our editors/agents during VCC? Email Kristine at kristinehansenwriter@gmail.com.

My interest in podcasting developed in the middle of the night. When I have insomnia, my mind becomes a dangerous neighborhood. If I wake in the wee hours, my brain spins tales about inadequacies, old opinions or grudges, and work that I should be doing. I discovered, however, that donning headphones and listening to podcasts took me away from this circular mind chatter. Once I’ve pressed “play” I will either go back to sleep or, if sleep eludes me, I’ll at least learn something.
Podcasting offers writers several advantages. First of all, the beauty of this media is that there are no gatekeepers. You don’t have to convince an editor, program director of producer that your material is worth broadcasting. Anyone with a computer, headphones and microphone can develop a podcast and send it out to the world.

When we start writing our books, most of us aren’t thinking, “Gee, I wonder how relevant this will be in five years?” We assume our masterpiece will be just as important in five years as it is today. If we are honest, we probably believe our long hours of research, writing, re-writing, blood, sweat and tears will outlive us and continue to fly off bookstore shelves while our great-grandchildren are walking the earth.

In the public imagination, reporters working with whistleblowers has traditionally meant All the President’s Men-style cloak-and-dagger stealth — meetings in shadowy underground garages, potted plants turned into signals, Hal Holbrook’s whispered exhortations to “follow the money.”
But today, journalists’ interactions with whistleblowers are more likely to come in Signal chats or secure dropboxes than D.C. garages. And that shift has changed the terms of engagement in often confusing ways.
