How many times has a client asked you if you could take on a project that requires skills you have been picking up only in the course of work? I've had clients ask me to ghostwrite executive blogs, outline points for an investor pitch, write short speeches, and write video scripts. Did I know what I was doing? I do now.
I took the work based on my knowledge of the content, the client, and the audience, but it would have been great to have had specific training for the various formats that clients increasingly request. That's the philosophy driving a new series of workshops designed by the ASJA Educational Foundation.

Sometimes it takes a village to find the truth — or at least a handful of fact-checking news partners.
Even though journalism is a competitive business, members of the fact-checking community have long reaped the benefits of collaboration — from PolitiFact's formal network of state news affiliates in the United States to informal "factcheckathons" focused on events such as International Women's Day or the 2015 G-20 summit.

The WRITER
A true hybrid, the micro-memoir strives to combine the extreme abbreviation of poetry, the narrative tension of fiction, and the truth-telling of creative nonfiction. The form might be considered a subset of the larger category of "flash nonfiction," but it's hard to draw strict lines here, because the recent proliferation of boundary-busting work is accompanied by a proliferation of terms – Anne Carson's "short talks," J. Robert Lennon's "anecdotes," Sarah Manguso's "aphorisms,” James Richardson's "ten-second essays:" all of these could at times be called "micro-memoirs."

Authors are not immune to procrastination, nor to distraction. To write a book requires dedication and a consistent writing schedule, but any author will tell you that the kind of focus needed to finish something as long as a book doesn't come naturally. It's a skill that they have developed over time through continued practice.
